Sale of Empire Aero nears completion

The Oneida County officials on Wednesday have said that the pursuit to sell the Empire Aero Center which is set at the Griffiss International airport in Rome is not far away.

To discuss the negotiations, Uzzi Rozzen, the Chief Executive Officer and the IAI North America President have met in the executive session along with the other local officials at the end of the meeting of the Oneida County Board of Legislators.

Anthony Picente, Oneida County Executive has said that “the sale is not a done deal but it is very close and should be finished within a month.”

The parent company of the Empire Aero Israel Aerospace Industries is likely to sell the business and the lease to the Building 101 at the airport to the Premier Aviation Overhaul Center out of Quebec, Canada.

The Empire Zone documents states that the Premier Aviation is planning to take on the current contracts of the Empire Aero, creating more than $2 million investment and raise to 275 employees over the course of 3 years.

During February, Empire Aero has reported that IAI was pursuing a buyer to prevent closing the center and if the deal is not accomplished then nearly 200 workers will become jobless. In the May layoffs were carried out but nobody had released the number of workers impacted.

“At Present there are only about 35 people working at Empire Aero that includes some of them from the Defense Support Services LLC, a company that works with Empire Aero on military contracts, said Picente.”

The car hire agencies found in Rome are Car Hire 3000, Argus Car Hire, Auto Europe, Easy Car, and Sixt.

Ruins in ruin: Rome

Domus Aurea was a large landscaped portico villa built by Emperor Nero after the Great Fire of Rome (64AD). Closed since 2008 plagued by structural problems and humidity threatening the frescoes, a vaulted gallery fell this spring. Earlier in 1999 heavy rain collapsed a section of roof. The problem was identified as rain seeping from a park above. But the park is city-owned, and the Domus Aurea is national property, so the problem is no one’s to solve.

After this some chunks fell off the Colosseum, and there are listed threats to the aqueducts, the Palatine. Salvo Barrano, vice president of Italy’s Association of National Archaeologists said “The problem for the last 12 or 13 years is that the country has stopped investing in culture,” he said. “In cases like the Domus Aurea, there just isn’t a quick enough political payoff for politicians to invest more resources.”

Rome is going ahead with great plans for modernization, but at what cost. There is still no master conservation plan for the upkeep of all those thousands of historical sites, but politicians a plenty to support a new headline-grabbing museum.

Rome is a city where as the future is being designed and built by star designers its past sadly crumbles away.

Truly Rome is an eternal city, but today its problems seem more eternal.
